True Fish Farming Story in Lake Victoria Basin (TRUEFISH)

Abstract

The True Fish Farming Story in Lake Victoria Basin (TRUEFISH) is a project financed by the European Development Fund, for the benefit of the East African Community (EAC), particularly the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB) in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This project is aimed at contributing to the development of a competitive, gender-equitable, and sustainable commercial aquaculture sector to support economic development and sustainable management of natural resources in the LVB. The TRUEFISH project was developed with three specific objectives, i) Improve access to commercial networks for aquaculture-related businesses, ii) Increase the availability of skilled workers, and iii) Improve sustainability by mitigating risks related to the aquatic environment, aquatic animal health conditions, and biodiversity. The specific objectives are developed in line with the 2009 Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization’s Regional Aquaculture Strategy and Investment Plan and the EAC Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy (2018).
